this is a single muse, independent roleplay blog for an original bg3 companion. i have a variety of verses, including a critical role compliant verse. more information on all available verses can be found on the verse page.

GOLDEN RULE. obligatory "don't be a dick" rule. don't follow if you are a shitty person.
ACTIVITY. activity is sporadic and irregular, at the whim of my energy level and adhd. I work 40hrs a week and take care of my life, pets, and myself all alone. roleplay is a low priority and something i do for fun.
WRITING PARTNERS. i will not follow or write with anyone under 18. as someone now in my mid-20s where there may be nsfw on this blog i do not feel comfortable having minors in my space.
DO NOT INTERACT. i have no interest in engaging with anyone who is still entertaining themselves with harry potter or jkr. if, at this point, with everything she has done, you still wish to write within that universe, with those characters (even if you are 'anti-jkr'), i do not want to engage with you. this includes characters with verses and oc's based in the universe.
INTERACTIONS. plotting and asks are usually the easiest way to interact. i occasionally post starter calls but they can take a while to get done. please feel free to continue on any asks into threads. i also will sometimes do dash commentary.
WRITING & FORMATTING. i use fairly minimal formatting, and even then it's wildly inconsistent. the key features of my formatting are all lowecase, "bold text for quotes / speaking" and small text. i use beta editor, and also have new xkit to cut posts. if you need different formatting requirements for any reason, please just beep me & i will adapt, gladly! i tend to write from a few sentences to muliple paragraphs, depending on my partner & the thread.
NSFW CONTENT. any nsfw or suggestive posts will be tagged cw usft. explicit nsfw will be rare, and under a read more if it appears.

PLOTTING. i love established dynamics! please, please, please feel free to reach out for any kinds of dynamics.
MEMES. memes are always open to be sent in by mutuals, regardless of when the original meme was reblogged. always feel free to send in as many memes as wanted or needed.
SHIPPING. i am very down for shipping! they are a romancable companion. she does identify as 'gay' / 'achillean'. if you aren't sure if you character would fall under that umbrella for shipping, if they would be comfortable being refered to as a man, then they probably do - but you are always welcome to ask me if you aren't sure! neyvin is a polyamorous but all ships are assumed to be in separate verses unless otherwise noted.
FIRBOLGS & LORE. while firbolgs are not in the bg3 game itself canonically, neyvin is a carry over from an actual dnd campaign with some adjustments made, so i decided to keep him as a firbolg!
firbolgs in faerun are giant-kin, and as such, neyvin is quite large. while he is short for a firbolg (females averare 9'10" on the low end), he towers over most other humanoids. firbolgs are unsusual to find outside of their settlements, which are usually reclusive. it is up to you if you think that your character would know what a firbolg is.
TRIGGERING CONTENT. there will be potentially triggering themes on this blog, including death, grief, and trauma. if i miss tagging things in a thread, please do not hesitate to ask for it!

HISTORY.

THE GENTLE GIANT.— neyvin was born to a small clan of firbolgs that lived in some rather mountainous region of vassa. a runt by most firbolg's standards, she was raised by her family and extended family. neyvin's clan lived close enough to some of the larger settlements that they did a fair bit of socializing. neyvin was trained as paladin, a rather interesting choice but one that his clan supported.it was in this socializing that they would end up finding themselves inadvertently saving the life of a harper agent -- ke'laun, a drow bard.neyvin helped the man and healed him as best he could. the charming bard easily captured the heart of the devoted young firbolg. and neyvin insisted he join with his newfound companion in his journeys -- 'lest he find himself in trouble again'.they traveled together for years -- neyvin joined the harpers a year after she met ke'laun. they were married that same year. they spent a not insignificant amount of time in candlekeep, where they kept a small residence. both were very active amongst those that lived there. ke'laun was an exceptional performer, and kept a regular audience and employment with a local tavern. neyvin did mostly odd jobs and helped out those who needed things done -- getting supplies for those who couldn't, taking care of children, fixing what needed done, cooking.when they got word of what was occuring in reithwin, both agreed to follow the summons. they participated in the battle for moonrise towers against ketheric's sharran forces. during the fight, she lost track of him. they found his body too late. the shadowcurse fell over reithwin, and neyvin buried the body of the man she loved. neyvin has never forgiven himself, blaming the fact ke'laun died on his negilgence.

VERSE : pre-bg3.

A HARPER'S LOVE. anything set during the events of neyvin's life / backstory before the cult of the absolute began to be a threat. covers his time both as a harper before and after the shadow curse.

VERSE : baldur's gate 3.

THE GENTLE GIANT. for more details, see companion quest page. features 3 mini-verses for acts i, ii, and 3.

MAIN VERSE. if bg3, assumes elder brain defeated end. || after the battle of baldur's gate is done, neyvin turns their attention to helping rebuild the city. he ends up taking in yenna and several other children left behind after the destruction. it's not uncommon to encounter her with two or three children hanging off of her as she attempts to buy groceries. she sets up nearby to jaheria's family, and much to the high harper's annoyance, seems to be quite well adored by her children.

VERSE : urban fantasy.

THE CARETAKER'S DOOR. neyvin is a well-known figure amongst the magical community. once a fey knight, they are now known to many as simply 'the caretaker'. neyvin sees to it that children or young folks of magical (and often, monstrous) lineage who need a place to reside due to whatever reason. she has been caretaker for centuries, and while she may not draw arms up often, she is still quite a formidable defender, especially of those under their care.

VERSE : critical role.

NOW A WANDERER. neyvin & ke'laun were grinners. ke'laun had grand ambitions of establishing the grinners within the dynasty, and took careful steps to disguise himself. yet, it didn't work forever and neyvin had to watch as his love was killed for treason. after this, he became a wanderer. moving from place to place, helping those he could where he could with what he could.

VERSE : curse of strahd.

THE LOST PALADIN. follows several events that occured in neyvin's original game || neyvin came to barovia with his party of adventuerers with the same goal as all parties do: defeat strahd, and free the land. things went bad and neyvin was the only survivor of his party. amused at how badly the paladin was broken by these losses, strahd allowed them to live. he goes on to help out at st. andral's orphanage.

VERSE : modern.

AN HONEST THIEF. based on the 2010s tv show 'leverage'. heavily features secret ranne. || former kindergarten teacher, neyvin's husband dies by 'accident', and his life falls apart. 3 months later, neyvin is approached with an offer: to help right wrongs for those like him who were failed by the systems of power. acting as the mastermind and occasional grifter, neyvin and his newfound family team help bring justice and peace to those who have no other option.

VERSE : arcane.

HOPE FOR MORE. associated heavily with @nightingeal. || neyvin grew up and lived in zaun, and both he and his husband were teachers and did their best, even though many of their students were unable to attend consistently. though well-liked by many within the community, both of them earned enemies due to being vocal opponents of piltover's disregard and overpolicing, and the chembaron's predation on the suffering, and seeking a more community-focused approach to solving problems. after ke'laun is killed in retaliation, neyvin ends up finding himself acting as a mentor and caretaker for the firelights.

QUESTLINE.

the gentle giant

first meeting.

neyvin can be found just outside the myconid colony, on the path towards the beach. when you approach, you will trigger a cutscene with him, in which neyvin is kneeling and speaking with a rat. when you approach, the rat runs off.neyvin introduces herself and explains that she heard there were some surfacers around, and asks if you are heading to take care of the duegar in grymforge. he asks if he can accompany the party there, as he was asked to check on some friends who were last known to be there.there are a few checks offered and eventually, neyvin admits he is a harper and was sent to look into some missing scouts, who had been investigating the cult.

neyvin's fate.

IF YOU AGREE TO HELP HER... "the gentle giant" questline with the objective "find the scouts" is immediately added to your journal.
IF YOU CHOOSE TO NOT TAKE THE QUESTLINE... you can tell him 'not my problem', he thanks you for your time and leaves. you later find his body near either the drow scouts in grymforge, or by the boat on the beach.
IF YOU DO NOT MEET THEM BEFORE THE BOAT CUT SCENE... they will show up as you start to board the boat at the beach, and the cut scene will continue as usual.
IF YOU DO NOT MEET THEM IN THE UNDERDARK AND PROCEED TO ACT II... when you reach last light inn, neyvin can be found recovering in the infirmary near art. you can speak with him, and with a few low DC checks, you will be given the option to ask him to join your party. you gain the questline "the gentle giant", with slightly varied act ii objectives.

  • you succeed in talking ketheric onto the path of redemption.

the morning after your first long rest post-leaving moonrise, neyvin will have a "!" over their head. upon talking to them, you can remark that they seems more at peace then they had been.she tells you that she has been thinking about the word mercy, and what it meant, especially in light of moonrise towers. she explains how the choices we make are only as good as the options we are given, and that she's come to realize sometimes the only choice we have is the illusion of it.he expresses sadness that someone like ketheric went down the path he did, and that he realized he could easily have gone down that same path of anger after his husband's death if he hadn't had more choices offered to him then ketheric.he ends the conversation by telling the player that he changed where his oath is focused to one that he thinks ke'laun would be proud of: a path of redemption and mercy.

major quest objectives — act i.

FIND THE SCOUTS. the harpers sent some scouts to grymforge to investigate the cult, but lost contact. our new companion, neyvin, was asked to find out what happened.
DISCOVER THE ABSOLUTE'S PURPOSE. unfortunately, we found the bodies of the harpers' scouts in grymforge. we should find out what they couldn't.
STOP THE CULTISTS. it seems the cult is working in grymforge on orders of general ketheric thorm. we need to stop the cultists from what they are attempting to do here.
REPORT TO THE HIGH HARPER. neyvin knows where the harper safe house is in the shadow cursed lands, last light inn. we should report what we have found to the high harper there.
